God’s Perfections

(Plain Text Version)

God is Perfectly Just
A while back (June, 2020), we looked at the idea of “justice” as a way of understanding the nature of God.  We know that people’s actions are “right” or “wrong”, “fair” or “unfair”, and so on.  We look at fairness or justice as things which don’t depend on human decisions.  For example, if the laws of a country allowed us to slap each other whenever we felt like it, we would say that slapping our neighbor is still wrong.
Since justice doesn’t come from us, where does it come from?  This question takes us to God!
We learn justice from God because He is perfectly just.  No other system of “justice” will work out.

God is Perfect In All Ways
Whatever is good, God has it perfectly.  He is perfectly kind, perfectly merciful, perfectly loving.
God has the power do anything.  God knows our thoughts better than we do.  God sees the past, the present, and the future effortlessly.  He is present everywhere and cannot be examined or measured.
Because God has all perfections, He is perfectly happy and has no need to use created things for enjoyment.  He cannot change because He is already perfect.
God is unique, so there are no other gods.

God Loves Perfectly
God doesn’t let His powers go to waste.  Because of His love for us, He uses His powers to help us to live a good life now, and to live with Him forever.
God is not too busy to be directly involved with each of the billions of people He has created.  When we have to wait for Him to act, it is because God grants favors at the perfect time.

To Think About Perfection Is to Think About God.
I like to think about the good things people do for each other.  I move on from thinking about the good actions to thinking about goodness itself.  I imagine a bottle of pure goodness, not mixed with anything else.  One day the bottle will overflow and become an ocean.  This ocean is life in Heaven with God.
