What Is Faith?

What Is Faith?

Is Faith like jumping off a skyscraper?

In a movie I just watched, two police detectives are trapped at the top of a tall building, pursued by well-armed murderers .  They notice a swimming pool at ground level, and jump off the building.  Although it seems that jumping into the pool would be fatal, our heroes were unharmed after their 20-story plunge.

Our fictional characters had some kind of “faith” that they were making the best choice for their survival.  This is an example of what Christian faith isn’t.

Christian faith is the kind of faith we use in our everyday life.  When we drive over a bridge, we usually don’t worry that it will collapse.  We know from experience that bridge failures are rare.  So, our faith in bridges is based on knowledge.

No Blind Leap

God wants us to believe things that we know to be true!

Faith is a form of knowledge.  It is an agreement that, since God is reliable, everything He reveals is true.

There is no end to the benefits of learning and believing what God has revealed.  It will be our guide through life, and a preparation for a happy death.  It will be a great bridge to the place prepared for us by God.

Let Us Pray for the End of COVID-19

Despite our efforts, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to endanger human life and disrupt our daily activities.  Pope Francis is asking us all to join him in praying the Rosary every day for the month of May.

Although the Rosary seems like a simple prayer, it brings us into the life of Christ.  When Christians unite in praying the Rosary, great miracles happen.  (This is a fact, not a wish).

For a news article on this prayer crusade, go to Churchpop.com.  This is a service of the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN).  EWTN is a very good resource for deepening our faith.
