God Is Love

THE SIMPLE CATECHISM—FROM MSGR. STEDMAN’S MISSAL

I believe that there is one God Who created heaven and earth, Continued.

As we try to understand God, things can get very complicated.  But God Himself is not complicated.  I am proposing another quiet time to think about one statement from the Bible: “God is love” (1 John 4:16).  Here are some things to think about:
Why did St. John say that God is love, rather than “God loves us”, or something like that?
If God is love, could He get enjoyment from watching us suffer?
If God is love, why would He create us?
When someone does something because of love and not for gain, is that person acting like God?
May God bless you as you open your mind and heart to Him!

LET US NOT GROW WEARY OF    DOING GOOD

When we hear of so many natural and man-made disasters, it can be easy to feel helpless.  We are not helpless, however.  We can help by prayer and by making contributions to reliable organizations. A good start can be to pray a Hail Mary whenever we hear bad news.
For contributions, I have confidence in the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Missionaries of Charity, Aid to the Church In Need, and the Knights of Columbus Charities.

Pope Francis has requested that we pray and fast for Lebanon on Friday September 4.
See vaticannews.va for the Pope’s message.
